Arsenal have got in touch with Houssem Aouar’s agents over his transfer to Emirates.
Lyon have put up their asking price for the midfielder and Arteta’s side have jumped at the opportunity. Matteo Guendouzi and Lucas Torreira are put on sale in order to rack up some cash to bring Aouar for a potential move to Arsenal this summer.
Mikel Arteta is looking to make midfield stronger, now that Dani Ceballos has returned back on loan to Arsenal from Real Madrid.
However, sporting director Juninho has hinted at keeping the midfielder back at Lyon because he is an important player for them indeed, with 137 appearances since 2017.
He told Le10 Sport: “In the absence of arrivals, I rather think that there will be departures.
“Houssem Aouar? When you have great players in the squad, it is quite logical that other bigger teams and with greater economic power come to seek those players.
“There is a risk of losing important players. If we lose important players, I have already spoken with the president, we will have the right to balance the squad.”
Sports journalist Fabrizio Romano had also admitted before that Arteta has been following Aouar for a while.
“For sure what I can guarantee is that the Arsenal board is in love with Aouar, Mikel Arteta is also in love with Aouar,” he told Lee Gunner in an interview on YouTube.
“For sure they will try but many other clubs have tried, there are rumours here in Italy with Juventus.”
