Sporting Lisbon, which paid to lower Coventry City’s sell-on clause, has given the clearest indication yet that Viktor Gyokeres would be traded this summer. The 26-year-old Sweden international is being pursued by several elite European teams, including Arsenal, following an incredible rookie campaign with the Portuguese powerhouses.
In his contract with Sporting Lisbon, the 26-year-old has a release clause worth £86 million. It seems improbable that Arsenal will find the Swedish player at a low cost. However, HITC claims that in order to approve a transfer this summer, the Portuguese team would accept offers that fell short of their release clause.
The Swedish forward is reportedly valued at £60 million by Arsenal, so it will be interesting to see if the North London powerhouse is willing to pay a premium for the gifted player.
Viktor Gyokeres may get dream Arsenal shirt number after agreement is reached
Following Sporting’s significant signal that they’re ready to sell, Arsenal has the ideal shirt number to entice Viktor Gyokeres to the team this summer. New reports, however, indicate that they may be prepared to make a £60 million opening offer to test the waters.
If an offer is approved, Arsenal might have just the right move up their sleeves to persuade him to sign with them. Since Cedric Soares’ contract expired and he left the team, the No. 17 shirt is now available.
Given his prior fondness for the number, handing him the shirt might truly be a cherry on top. In addition to playing for Coventry City and his country, the 26-year-old has worn the number 17 on his back on a regular basis. He presently wears the number nine for Sporting.
