Piero Hincapie of Bayer Leverkusen has agreed to a contract with Arsenal. According to reports, the Gunners and the Bundesliga team have reached an agreement on a loan agreement that includes a £45 million buyout option for the Ecuadorian international.

With the addition of an eighth player of the summer by sporting director Andrea Berta, Mikel Arteta will be able to strengthen his defense. North London is already home to Viktor Gyokeres, Martin Zubimendi, Christian Norgaard, Noni Madueke, Kepa Arrizabalaga, Cristhian Mosquera, and Eberechi Eze.

Under Xabi Alonso, the 23-year-old Hincapie won the Bundesliga in 2023–2024 and has 166 games overall for Leverkusen. Despite a contract until 2029 and interest from Tottenham, Newcastle, and Liverpool, Arsenal was able to negotiate a lower price for the defender, who was reported to have a £50 million release clause.

Jakub Kiwior will be able to leave the Emirates for Porto in the next few days thanks to the agreement. According to the BBC, Hincapie is thought of as the Polish star’s immediate replacement.

A 10% sell-on provision has also been agreed upon by Leverkusen and Arsenal as part of their contract. Hincapie will go to London this weekend for a physical after agreeing to a five-year contract with Arsenal.

When Xabi Alonso was head coach of Leverkusen, he was gushing over Hincapie’s skills. “He’s a very modern defender,” Alonso remarked. He can play a variety of positions. He has played as our fullback in recent games, but when we have used a back three, he has also played as our left center back.

Having a guy with his talent and drive inspires me because he helps you and you assist him.” He’s aggressive, is making better decisions when he has the ball, and backs himself more to play diagonal passes and get in behind.” He is an excellent player.

The Gunners are now serious competitors with the depth and talent to contend on all fronts rather than being outsiders. Nothing less than a big prize this season will do; therefore, Arteta must now demonstrate that he can translate promise into hardware.
