Arsenal might consider selling captain Martin Odegaard this summer if they receive a suitable offer, according to reports.

Gunners Could Cash In on Captain Odegaard This Summer

The Norwegian midfielder endured a challenging 2025/26 campaign at the Emirates Stadium. Multiple short-term injuries disrupted his season, limiting him to just 1,984 minutes of first-team action. During that time, he managed only one goal and eight assists across all competitions.

BBC Sport journalist Sami Mokbel has now suggested that the Gunners could part ways with their captain.

Speaking on the Latte Firm Podcast, Mokbel revealed that there are “some whispers” about a potential departure.

“I expect there will be at least one high-profile departure at Arsenal,” Mokbel said.

“There is a focus on outgoings, given the spend last season. People will say, we don’t need to sell – you don’t need to sell, but it’s prudent to do so.”

He added: “There have been some whispers over the summer that Arsenal might be interested in letting Martin Odegaard go for the right price.”

Odegaard’s campaign proved particularly frustrating. He suffered freak injuries in the early months and got substituted before half-time in three separate matches.

His season ended with a medial collateral ligament injury to his left knee, which continued to cause problems during the final weeks.

The 27-year-old still contributed nine goal involvements, with his final assist setting up Leandro Trossard’s late winner against West Ham United last month.

Arsenal spent heavily last summer and now need to balance their books. While the club does not have to sell players, generating funds through sales makes financial sense.

The Gunners have shown strong interest in Aston Villa’s Morgan Rogers, who can play as a number 10 or on the left wing. They have also targeted Paris Saint-Germain winger Bradley Barcola, with reports suggesting they are preparing a bid.

If Arsenal secure both players, Odegaard’s departure could become more likely. The prospect of Barcola and Rogers starting together might tempt manager Mikel Arteta to reshape his attack.

For now, these remain mere rumours. Arteta holds Odegaard in high regard and would likely resist his exit unless extraordinary circumstances arise. The club signed the Norwegian for £30 million, and they may demand significantly more to consider selling their captain.

Arsenal fans will watch developments closely as the transfer window progresses.
