Corriere dello Sport claims that AS Roma have begun negotiations by placing their first bid during the Coronavirus pandemic.
Mkhitaryan only has one more season left on his current deal. Roma has been impressed by his performances this season while away from the Emirates on loan. However, both clubs are quite far apart in terms of their valuation of the Armenian.
Arsenal want €24m for him while Roma are only willing to go as close as €20m. The player himself is favouring a switch after fitting in well with the Giallorossi, something he could not manage at North London or Manchester. Getting rid of Mkhitaryan’s lofty wages will also be beneficial in tying Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang to a longer deal.
Mikel Arteta already has plans of adding several players to the squad this summer. That would also mean for Arsenal to get rid of some of the dead wood within the squad. Mkhitaryan has always struggled to establish himself in the Premier League since his switch from Borussia Dortmund. At 31, he is also closing in towards the end of his career in England but not in Italy.
