Fiorentina have offered a package of €26.5 million for Lucas Torreira, as per reports.
Italian news outlet, La Stampa claims that Arsenal have received a bid of €8.5 million loan fee for the midfielder. An €18 million-worth obligation to buy has been inserted into that offer after one season.
This could be one offer to entertain as Arsenal are looking to offload a number of players. Torreira is one of the many who are excess to Mikel Arteta’s needs. Selling him on would raise funds for newer faces like Thomas Partey, Houssem Auoar or Philippe Coutinho, players the club desperately need.
Arsenal signed Torreira for €29.5 million in the summer of 2018. If anything, they would like to recoup the full amount they paid for him. He is still only 24 and has a contract until June 2023. Arsenal can push Fiorentina to meet the €30 million mark but they will have to wait an entire year. They need cash now and receiving only €8.5 million upfront is not ideal.
Unfortunately, due to the COVID-19 pandemic clubs across the globe have limited cash flow. So, offers from smaller clubs will mostly likely include loan deals and payments in instalments. Should Arsenal let Torreira walk for such a low sum? No. Even if he is kept on for one more year, the Uruguayan international can fetch a higher sum.
