Reports suggest the RB Leipzig figure, who’s services were pursued by Arsenal for £55m last summer is now available for £50m.
Rivals, Tottenham Hotspur have taken note of the defender’s situation and is ready to follow up with a bid of their own. However, Arsenal should be clear leaders in this race, given how they desperately need defensive improvements.
Upamecano has started the last 19 games for Leipzig after overcoming a knee injury. At only 21, he has become a key part of their Bundesliga title bid and one of the hottest young prospects in Germany.
The France youth international is reportedly wanted by Manchester City as well. He is clearly highly valued for a reason with Leipzig initially holding out for all of his £92m release clause. The good news is Upamecano’s contract is set to expire in June 2021. Leipzig are aware of the dangers that could follow by ignoring current interests.
