Napoli and Lazio are reportedly in talks with Arsenal for Shkodran Mustafi.
According to Calciomercato, the Serie A clubs want to sign him but at much lower wages.
Mustafi earns around £4m in London but Lazio are only ready to offer him £2.5m plus bonuses. Whether that will be acceptable for the German remains to be seen. Arsenal also want around £13m for his sale.
Mikel Arteta has already said that several players could leave this summer to fund incomings. Just like Emiliano Martinez, the Gunners might be forced to sell players they don’t necessarily want to.
Mustafi ranks very high on Arteta’s books due to some impressive performances last season. Other than making a customary error against Chelsea, the 27-year-old was arguably Arsenal’s best defender before an injury late into the season dropped him out of the lineup for three months.
He is closing in on his return but could head out without playing another game for Arsenal. Even if he were to leave, Arteta won’t be short of players in the position. He still has David Luiz for one more season, Rob Holding, Gabriel Magalhaes, Pablo Mari, William Saliba and Calum Chambers.
