The 30-year-old winger was reportedly inches away from signing with the Gunners at the break of the year but a deal never finalised due to Unai Emery’s lack of transfer funds. Arsenal were looking to recruit not only a top personnel to the understaffed wing position but also add some experience into the squad lineup.
With their recent list of shortlisted players, the North London outfit might be setting off long term plans of rebuilding from scratch. Young athletes like Alexis Claude-Maurice, Kieran Tierney, William Saliba and their latest signing Gabriel Martinelli are all teenagers to barely adults.
The club ideally would like to have a fair mix of youth and old with their leading stars like Sokratis, Mesut Ozil, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang about to or already in their 30s.
Perisic reeks of top-tier experience, having been an influential figure for both the Croatian national team and in the Serie A with Inter Milan. He reportedly would have cost the Gunners £30m back in January but his value seems to have dropped since then.
The Nerazzurri CEO, Giuseppe Marotta has already made it clear that the club would not stand in the Croatian’s way if he wishes to leave. The veteran midfielder is also said to around £51,000-per-week which Arsenal can easily better if an offer gets approved by Inter.
