Arsenal fans have been dealt a heartbreaking blow as the club officially announced that star striker Gabriel Jesus has sustained a severe anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury in his left knee.
This devastating news comes following the Brazilian’s early exit during the Gunners’ FA Cup defeat to Manchester United.
Jesus was stretchered off in the 40th minute of Sunday’s clash after a collision with United’s Bruno Fernandes, leaving fans and teammates visibly concerned.
Speaking after the match, manager Mikel Arteta hinted at the seriousness of the situation, saying:
“Big worry, that’s my feeling. He had to come off on a stretcher with a lot of pain, touching his knee. It’s not looking good.”
Unfortunately, Arteta’s fears have now been confirmed. In an official statement, Arsenal provided an update on the extent of Jesus’ injury:
“Following our match against Manchester United on Sunday, Gabriel Jesus has undergone extensive assessments, scans, and specialist reviews which have confirmed an injury to the anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee.
Gabby will undergo surgery in the coming days and will begin his recovery and rehabilitation programme shortly after. The club remains fully committed to supporting him through his journey back to full fitness.”
Renowned journalist Fabrizio Romano also confirmed the grim update, noting that Jesus’ season is effectively over. The 26-year-old had been in scintillating form since returning to the team, scoring six goals in his last five starts.
Overall, he has been a pivotal figure for Arsenal, contributing 26 goals and 17 assists in 96 appearances since joining from Manchester City.
The injury has left Arsenal’s attacking options severely depleted, with both Jesus and Bukayo Saka now sidelined.
The Gunners are reportedly eyeing reinforcements in the January transfer window, with names like Juventus’ Dusan Vlahovic and Brentford’s Bryan Mbeumo already circulating as potential targets.
While fans await updates on potential signings, the focus remains on supporting Gabriel Jesus through what promises to be a challenging recovery period.
As the club’s statement emphasized, Arsenal is united in ensuring their star striker returns stronger than ever.
