Coutinho is currently enjoying a successful loan spell with Aston Villa.
Arsenal could join the race for Barcelona midfielder Philippe Coutinho after looking at him ‘in the past’, according to journalist Dean Jones.
Coutinho is currently enjoying a successful loan spell with Aston Villa. He was struggling at Barca and is likely to depart Camp Nou on a permanent basis in the summer.
Coutinho established himself during a five-year spell with Liverpool. It helped him to get a contract with Barcelona in winter 2018, making him one of the most expensive players in history.
The 29-year-old was offered to Arsenal on loan in 2019 before he was allowed to seek pastures new in the January transfer window.
Coutinho decided to reunite with Steven Gerrard at Villa Park following his appointment as manager just a couple of months prior in a deal that includes an option to buy for £33m.
As per the reports of The Telegraph, Coutinho is going to have to take a significant cut to his £480,000-a-week wages if he is to make his loan move to Aston Villa permanent.
The Brazilian has netted four goals and registered three assists in nine appearances for his new side.
But Jones believes his eye-catching displays could prompt Arsenal into making a move after Spanish outlet Sport claimed they were ready to pounce for his signature in the summer.
Arsenal has built his success around youngsters such as Bukayo Saka, Emile Smith Rowe and Martin Odegaard, but the added experience of Coutinho could be warmly welcomed.
