According to the latest reports, Arsenal are about the announce the signing of Layvin Kurzawa from Paris Saint-Germain.
The 27-year-old has been allowed to leave PSG on a free and Mikel Arteta wants to snap him up on a 5-year deal.
Arsenal had already agreed terms with Kurzawa back in January but PSG wanted to make a one final attempt at a contract extension. Eventually, negotiations broke down and the Gunners are about to land a backup at the left-back position.
Arsenal’s financial troubles were made public last December when they recorded losses in the region of £19m. It was the first time the club had not made a profit or broken even since 2004. You can imagine how tough it is going to be after the COVID-19 pandemic, especially since a majority of Arsenal’s revenue comes from matchday sales.
Arteta, like Arsene Wenger, will have to scavenge for rare talents and develop them into his style rather than just sign stars outright. That is why he has been looking at bargain deals like that of Kurzawa. The Gunners picked up Cedric Soares on a nominal fee of £4m last January. He will be eligible to sign a new deal this summer after his old one expires.
Kurzawa will likely play as a second-string option behind Kieran Tierney while Sead Kolasinac is likely to be shown the door. Kolasinac has failed to impress after his free move from FC Schalke and his contract is due to run out in another two seasons.
