Tuesday night, The Athletic reported that Sheffield United will pay £5 million to sign Auston Trusty to a permanent contract. Trusty will now officially join the Premier League team, according to Fabrizio Romano, who announced that the contract has been reached. Manchester outlet Trusty is anticipated to join Sheffield United at the start of their Premier League season on August 12, according to a recent report in The Star.
Paul Heckingbottom, the manager of Sheffield United, stated on Tuesday that the transfer was almost finalised: “I said I’ll give you my normal answer, but I think we’re virtually there with that.” He has undergone a medical, and we are prepared to leave. It involves the clubs. Trusty has been linked to a transfer throughout the summer, with Rangers allegedly interested in signing him. However, they had a proposal rejected and don’t appear to have submitted another.
After Trusty’s loan stint at Birmingham City in the Championship last season, a sizable number of teams were interested in signing him, including Ipswich Town. The defender was just a few games away from playing 50 times for Birmingham when he earned the Supporters’ Player of the Season accolade with them.
Trusty toured the United States with Arsenal during the preseason, hitting the crossbar from a distance to help the Gunners win the MLS All-Star Skills Challenge. But in the real games, Trusty only appeared as a substitute for 10 minutes against the All-Stars and then was unable to enter the game against Manchester United and Barcelona.
It was difficult to see a route in for Trusty with the defensive arrival of Jurrien Timber by Arsenal and the return to fitness of injured defenders like William Saliba and Takehiro Tomiyasu. Trusty joined Arsenal in 2022 for about £1.8 million, thus a $5 million sale would result in an immediate profit.
