Fulham owes Arsenal the first of their add-on payments for the sale of Bernd Leno now that they are safe from relegation
In a summer transfer from Arsenal to Fulham, Bernd Leno paid merely £3 million. However, there were a number of add-on fees associated with appearances and Fulham’s Premier League survival.
Fulham had the potential to earn an additional £2 million, another £2 million if they avoided relegation twice, and a further £1 million if Leno meets a specific appearance goal.
The first of those payments is now due as Fulham has mathematically guaranteed its Premier League survival, increasing the total to $5 million so far. Leno, who has now played 33 times for Fulham, is probably going to reach his goal of appearances soon as well. He’ll probably continue to start for the team next season given his strong results.
Without a doubt, Fulham received a favourable bargain, even if they must pay the remaining £3 million over the course of the following year. For a Premier League team, £8 million is more than plenty to get a starting custodian. Prior to Arsenal’s match against the Gunners in March, Leno himself claimed that the deal was a bargain.
However, from the perspective of Arsenal, it’s beneficial to have a little bit extra cash on hand before a crucial summer of transfer business. even though there was potential for far more. Pablo Mari, who apparently met the prerequisites for AC Monza to exercise his £6 million obligation to buy, is also expected to be sold by the Gunners.
