Arsenal new manager Unai Emery completed the signing of Stefan Lichtsteiner from Juventus on a free transfer, signing a one year deal. He was the club’s first signing this summer.
He joined the Serie A giants from Lazio for €10 million back in 2011. He was their mainstay in the defense since joining them and established himself as one of the best wing-backs in the world with constant solid performances.
The 34 year old has tasted a lot of success with the Turin side, winning the domestic title in each of his seven seasons. He scored 14 goals in 250 appearances during his stay with the Turin Side.
He made 32 appearances in all competitions for the Italian side as they won a seventh consecutive league title and fourth consecutive Coppa Italia last term.
However, the defender is yet to start any fixtures for the Gunners so far as Hector Bellerin has been preferred ahead of him. There has been suggestions that he could announce retirement after his current deal.
Lichtsteiner has denied reports of retirement and has vowed to challenge Bellerin for a starting spot.
“For me, stepping down has never been up for debate, if I have to admit that I cannot keep the level of the last few years, then it is time,” Lichsteiner said, according to Sportal.
“‘But then I will not only resign from the Swiss national team, but finish my career. Based purely on performance data I have the physicality of a 28-year-old.”
