The player’s future was called into question during the transfer window
Alexandre Lacazette joined Arsenal from Lyon for a club record fee of €53 million plus up to €7 million in potential bonuses last summer, signing a 5 year contract. He developed himself as one of the best forwards in Europe during his time in France.
The France International managed to score 17 goals in all competitions for the Gunners last term but injuries and dip in form resulted in less appearances. He even missed out a place in the France World Cup squad as the Les Bleus lifted the trophy after 20 years.
They signed Pierre-Emerick Aubayemeng from Borussia Dortmund during the January transfer window which increased the competition for a starting place. But both of them played together towards the end of the campaign.
However, the 27 year old’s future was called into question this summer and was heavily linked with an exit. But he stayed at the club as the Premier League transfer window closed.
Lacazette has insisted that he never thought of leaving Arsenal during the summer transfer window and claimed that he wanted to fight for a regular role under new manager Unai Emery.
He told reporters after starring in south Wales as quoted by Goal: “I don’t know who said this stuff, but I am at one of the best clubs in London and I am happy at Arsenal.
“It’s always going to be hard to be in the first XI at a club like this, but I always keep fighting and working.
“I won’t play every week just because of one game.
“Every day I have to work and show the coach I work well and I deserve my place.”
The Striker has started the 2018-2019 in impressive style, featuring in all the 4 Premier League fixtures so far and scoring the winner against Cardiff City Last Weekend. His and Aubayemeng partnership are also looking impressive, as they started together for the first time this term.
