Nuno Tavares has had an amazing start to his career at Lazio, earning him the title of “the King of Assists” in Serie A according to a Portuguese publication. With five assists in his first five games since going on loan from Arsenal, Tavares leads the league in assists. With 13 points from seven games, Lazio is currently in third position in Serie A thanks in large part to Tavares, who has emerged as a vital creative outlet for the team.
Tavares has been instrumental in helping Lazio close the three-point gap with leaders Napoli. After his most recent assist, Lazio was referred to on social media as “the Nuno Express.” In the summer of 2021, Tavares made a potentially £8 million transfer from Benfica to Arsenal on a long-term contract. After “annoying” Arteta, he was sent out on loan after making 28 appearances for the team in the 2021–2022 campaign.
His conduct has “often annoyed” the manager of the Gunners and his staff. Before he joined Lazio, Ajax was briefly linked to the player. Enjoying his football in Italy’s top division, he feels at home in Rome. “Here in Lazio, I feel more and more at home. Thankfully, both personally and collectively, things are going well. Although there is certainly more work to be done, the balance is currently very favorable,” he stated.
Tavares stated, as cited by O Jogo: “I feel like I belong at Lazio.” Thankfully, both individually and as a group, things are going well. We can only consider getting better now that I believe we have met the task.
