Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang was not the least bit pleased with Arsenal’s defensive collapse against Watford on Sunday.
The Gunners took an early 0-2 lead through a brace from the Gabon international. Quique Sanchez Flores’ men rallied back to make it 2-2 and even came close to grabbing all three points at Vicarage Road.
Sokratis Papastathopoulos’ horrific individual error gifted Watford the opening goal and a counter-attack for the second one was poorly handled by David Luiz. The Brazilian ended up giving away a penalty, again and Roberto Pereyra slammed the ball at the back of the net for the equaliser.
When asked about his team’s shortcomings, Aubameyang said, “Obviously we didn’t expect that. We knew that they were going to try and come back with good intentions, of the kind they demonstrated in the second half. Sadly, we were not able to deal with them well. I feel like we are literally giving goals to the opposition, it is up to us to progress in that respect.”
He continued, “I don’t want to accuse anyone, you could say that us the attackers could have killed the game off and score a third goal. So I am not going to say it is someone’s fault. It is a shame to concede goals like we did.”
When asked about the absence of Alexandre Lacazette, the former Dortmund striker replied, “I think it affects us. We know very well that he brings us so much in these sorts of games.”
