Granit Xhaka made headlines last night by scoring a remarkable goal against Manchester United in Arsenal’s 2-0 win at the Emirates.

The 26-year-old laid himself off 30 yards from the goal line and then proceeded to punch in a shot which curled outside in a bizarre manner to completely dupe David De Gea and end up in the back of the net.

That handed Arsenal the confidence to see out the match while Ole Solskjaer’s men tried to mount a comeback. Eventually, Alexandre Lacazette won the Gunners a penalty and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang ended the tie with a successful spot kick.

This is not the first time Arsenal fans have witnessed their defensive midfielder score a stunner from distance. Xhaka might have a lot of weaknesses but his left foot certainly is not one.

After the match, Aubameyang revealed what he and the rest of his teammates call the Swiss international.  “The goal is really great. We know that when Granit shoots on the target, it’s a really, really good shot,” he said. “All the team is very happy. We call him Xhakaboom.”

Funnily enough, the nickname sounds very similar to that of opposition midfielder, Paul Pogba’s. The Frenchman is called ‘Pogboom’ by his own fans. So, was it Aubameyang’s intentions to take a jab at the United player who even promotes his own brand with the similar name on social media?

Arsenal have climbed their way up to the top four of the Premier League after Sunday’s win. Aubameyang believes the North London outfit is on a good run and can follow through with their plans for the 2018/19 season.

The Gabon international further added, “We have a good spirit, but we are hungry. We want to come back to the Champions League and we are focused on that. It means a lot. It’s not easy. We have great strikers in this league. I stay focused most important is Champions League first and If I can get that, great.”
