According to reports from Spain, Arsenal are looking to raid the Barcelona ranks for both Samuel Umtiti and Malcom.
The Gunners are aiming for more better signings after a failed loan move for Denis Suarez in January. The midfielder could not fit into the team despite having played under Unai Emery before.
Now, the Spanish boss is set to utilize whatever funds he will be provided to strengthen the team this summer. A 4-1 defeat at the hands of Chelsea really set the tone for what needs to be done next season.
Emery’s debut season with the Londoners has been unsuccessful but many fans would agree that he has brought around some change. All of his signings except Stephan Lichtsteiner and Suarez have turned into instrumental players for the team.
Now, bringing in a winger like Malcom and a centre-half like Umtiti is the Spaniard’s top priority. Arsenal’s attack needs some width and speed to work with. Their defence line needs a major revamp which would mean an improvement in almost all the positions.
Umtiti’s injury history makes him a gamble at the price point he is at right now but Malcom would be a welcome addition up front. The Brazilian has skill, speed and creative ability which is being wasted by in the overpowered Camp Nou ranks.
Unfortunately for Arsenal, the truth will need to gulp down is the club will no way be able to afford both of these Blaugrana players. It could be a case of either or, or even worse – neither, due to the Gunners’ dire financial situation.
