Cristiano Ronaldo reportedly called up Arsenal target, James Rodriguez to convince him over a move to Juventus.
The Colombian midfielder shared the pitch with Ronaldo during their time together at Real Madrid. However, he has found it tough to establish himself as a starting figure at Bayern Munich as well, drawing constant links with the Gunners this past month.
Arsenal were even thought to have prepared a £3m bid to loan him away to the Emirates in the winter transfer window. Rodriguez instead chose to finish out his two-year deal with the Bundesliga giants and take the remainder of the 2018/19 campaign to contemplate his future in Europe.
The latest reports state that Arsenal are prepared to hand Unai Emery a £40m bag to play with next summer. By then Denis Suarez’s loan spell will be over and Aaron Ramsey will also be off for Juventus on a free transfer.
Emery and Mesut Ozil has not been seeing eye-to-eye lately which could prompt the Gunners to reignite their interests for Rodriguez. However, they now face competition from one of Europe’s biggest clubs especially with the 5-time Balon d’Or winner on board.
The Bianconerri already has the likes of Paulo Dybala, Diego Costa, Juan Cuadrado and Miralem Pjanic in the squad lineup. Unless one of them were to make an exit ahead of the 2018/19 season, Rodriguez might find it hard to break into the starting lineup at San Siro as well.
