After FC Den Bosch, a team in the Dutch second division, released former Arsenal midfielder Gedion Zelalem, his career took yet another unfortunate turn. Due to a mutually agreed-upon contract termination at the end of August, the previously highly-touted 27-year-old finds himself at a crossroads once more. Once likened to Cesc Fàbregas, Zelalem must now find a new club to help him turn his career around.
While playing in the USA, Gedion Zelalem was noticed and signed with Arsenal in 2013 as a teenager. When Arsène Wenger saw his potential right away, he sent him on a preseason tour with the first team. Although the young man was full of hope, his career has been plagued ever since by injuries and personal disappointments.
He spent the 2015-16 season on loan at Rangers, where he made 28 appearances and assisted the Scottish team in winning promotion to the Premier League. He later moved to the Netherlands and signed for VVV-Venlo; however, he was only able to play in eight games due to injury. Zelalem joined FC Den Bosch in January 2023, where he connected with Yousuf Sajjad, the former scout who had become the club’s technical director, and Nikolaj Moller, an Arsenal loanee.
In an attempt to strengthen their midfield, Den Bosch signed Zelalem originally on a deal that would expire in 2024 with the option to extend after seeing his potential. Zelalem’s tenure at Den Bosch wasn’t what was expected of him, despite his promising performance. Zelalem made 38 appearances for the team, but he fell out of favour when a new management team took over.
