The appointment of Andrea Berta, the former manager of Atletico Madrid, as Arsenal’s next sporting director seems imminent. Fabrizio Romano claims that Andrea Berta is the front-runner to take over as sporting director of Arsenal. He is thought to be eager to join the Gunners, as he has been searching for a new opportunity since leaving Atletico Madrid.
In November of last year, Edu Gaspar was fired by the North London club. Since 2019, the Brazilian has participated in the Arsenal initiative. He had been instrumental in getting them back on track, so his departure was undoubtedly devastating.
As his deputy, Jason Ayto has been managing the position; the Gunners have been continuously searching for the perfect Edu substitute. The two people spearheading the search for a new sporting director are managing director Richard Garlick and co-owner Josh Kroenke.
Berta is thought to be the Gunners’ top target at this point after they had spoken with a number of contenders. The TBR report claims that the Italian has already declined a chance to join AC Milan because he is solely interested in Arsenal.
Relevo explains that several major Premier League and Serie A teams have pursued Berta since it became apparent that he would not be staying at Atletico Madrid. Berta had previously been linked to Manchester United and Juventus. Berta and Mikel Arteta, the manager of Arsenal, are on good terms nevertheless, and an agreement is anticipated soon.
It has been reported that he and the North London club have reached an initial agreement. After joining the Atletico Madrid team in 2013, the 53-year-old left at the beginning of this year.
Considering his performance at the Madrid-based team, the Gunners believe he might help them win some major awards. The North London team has already had discussions with him in an attempt to include him in their lineup for the upcoming campaign. Romano claims that although the contract is far from final, negotiations are advanced.
