Arsenal are ready to offer a new contract to manager Mikel Arteta
The 39-year-old, who spent time as Pep Guardiola’s No2 at the Etihad, is tied down at the Emirates until 2023. That implies his contract at City will expire at the same time as Guardiola’s.
Despite Arsenal finished eighth in the Premier League in both of Arteta’s two years in charge, speculation is rife that he may be his Spanish compatriot’s successor at the Etihad. The Gunners are keen to prevent this from happening.
According to reports, the Gunners are likely to offer Arteta a new £8.3 million-a-year contract this summer.
Arteta’s contract expires in 16 months, and the club is desperate to ensure his long-term future at the Emirates.
And owner Stan Kroenke is ready to demonstrate his faith in the Spaniard by agreeing to a three-year deal worth £25 million for the Premier League’s youngest manager.
Arteta’s current wage of £5 million per year pales in comparison to his former Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola, who earns £20 million per year at the Etihad.
Antonio Conte, the new manager of Tottenham Hotspur, and Jurgen Klopp, the manager of Liverpool, both earn approximately £15 million per year, and even Brendan Rodgers, the manager of Leicester, earns around twice that amount.
