Arsenal are looking to bring back one of their former players, Edu to the club and appoint him their new technical director, the Daily Mail understands.
The 41-year-old is currently assisting the Brazil national team in their bid for the Copa America trophy. However, to release him of his contract with the Green and Yellows would reportedly have cost the Gunners £6m.
Brazil have graciously agreed to waive the release fee and send Edu on his way to the Emirates, once the tournament is over. It is a massive summer for Arsenal in paving the direction they are set to take under a new manager.
The lack of a recruitment head has hindered their growth in some ways. Unai Emery is struggling to gain any leads in the transfer market with just a £45m allowance.
He will need more help from the backroom and inside knowledge to fill this squad with notable talents. Holding on to the club’s biggest stars like Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Alexandre Lacazette is also of the utmost importance.
Edu’s job will be pressing right from the start but there needs to be a clear definition of his role as well. A repeat of the Sven Mislintat saga is the last thing Arsenal need on their hands as they set out to attract top-pedigree talents.
