Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta has been urged to make a bold move this summer — by picking up the phone and personally convincing Manchester City star Kevin De Bruyne to join the Gunners.

Arteta urged to personally call £55m Man City’s Kevin De Bruyne and bring him to Arsenal this summer

Jamie O’Hara, speaking on Sky Sports, made a passionate case for Arsenal to snap up the Belgian maestro, who is set to leave City when his contract expires in July.

De Bruyne, signed for £55 million back in 2015, has been one of the driving forces behind City’s domestic dominance, winning multiple Premier League titles under Pep Guardiola.

Despite turning 34 in June, De Bruyne remains one of the Premier League’s finest creative midfielders. His vision, passing range, and ability to change a game in an instant make him a dream signing for any top club.

O’Hara believes Arsenal who have come agonisingly close to dethroning City in the last two title races could finally push past their rivals if they manage to land De Bruyne.

“Every team in the Premier League would take Kevin De Bruyne,” O’Hara said.

“If he is genuinely going to go, Mikel Arteta knows him, he should get straight on the phone and say: ‘Come and sign for Arsenal, we’ll win the league with you.’”

He added that with Champions League football secured, Arteta could offer De Bruyne the chance to stay at the top level in England rather than heading to MLS or the Saudi Pro League, where clubs are reportedly circling.

However, there are significant hurdles. De Bruyne’s age, his £400,000-a-week wage demands, and a worrying injury record — he’s missed nearly 200 days of action since the start of the 2023/24 season — all make this a tricky deal.

Arsenal have been cautious about signing aging stars in recent years, learning hard lessons from past moves like Willian.

While the prospect of De Bruyne pulling the strings alongside Martin Ødegaard is mouth-watering, the likelihood of this transfer materializing remains slim.

Still, Arsenal fans can dare to dream — and Arteta may have a persuasive phone call to make if he wants to pull off one of the most stunning coups of the summer window.
