Jimmy Brain moved to Arsenal in 1923 after an unsuccessful trial Cardiff City and became one of the most successful goalscorers for the club. The Gunners football club was still relatively very young and Brain emerged as a star in their early days, playing 8 seasons at North London and 139 goals in only 232 appearances.
Back in the day, that was mighty impressive and his goalscoring feats helped Arsenal reach their first ever FA Cup final in 1926/27. Although he was no longer a starter then, Brain collected his first medal when he helped the Gunners to their first First Division League title in 1931 by scoring 4 goals in 16 matches. He later moved to Tottenham Hotspur and ended his career with Cheltenham Town.
John Radford 12 seasons with Arsenal, scoring 149 goals in 481 appearances. He played both as a centre-forward and a right winger through the 70s and the 80s. Other than being their fourth highest goal scorer, he is also the club’s youngest player ever to record a hat-trick.

Cliff Bastin is remembered for his contribution to the club during the 1930s and now, nearly 80 years on, he still commands respect from fans of all ages. The former striker is positioned at the number 18th spot of the Gunners’ Greatest Players list.
Bastin scored 178 goals in 395 games, which is a remarkable tally for a player who operated as an ‘outside left’. He was a force to be reckoned with in Herbert Chapman’s all-conquering side back in the day.
Ian Wright spent 7 years with Arsenal and ended up becoming one of the most influential strikers of his time. He racked up 185 goals in 288 games for the club. He also led the club to a Premier League title, 2 FA Cups, a League Cup and the 1993-94 European Cup Winners’ Cup.
Wright was signed from Crystal Palace for £2.5m, which at the time was a record fee for Arsenal. He ended up scoring on his debut against Leicester City and even scored a hat-trick on his League debut against Southampton.
On 13 September 1997, the Englishman broke Cliff Bastin’s club-record of 178 goals. Despite being a veteran by the time Arsene Wenger took charge of the North London outfit, Wright continued to score on a regular basis.
He was eventually sold off to West Ham United for £500,000 in July 1998. He earned 33 caps and scored 9 goals for England by the time of his retirement in the Burnley ranks.
