Ilkay Gundogan, a midfielder for Barcelona, is allegedly looking to leave the team after only a year of being a Manchester City free agent. The German was not included in the squad for last weekend’s La Liga match against Valencia, and the Blaugrana are willing to let him leave for nothing.
Gundogan’s re-signing with Manchester City has been suggested. Francois Plateau, a journalist, claims that Arsenal is also “trying to sign” him this summer. “Massive fan” of Gundogan, Arteta “wishes to sign him” after “failing to secure his services” last summer, Plateau said in his post on X (previously Twitter).
While Gundogan and Arsenal collaborated at the Etihad Stadium, it remains unclear if Gundogan has expressed interest in joining Arsenal.
Ilkay Gundogan’s re-signing is favoured by Manchester City. The 33-year-old former Germany international is putting his desire to re-join the Premier League winners above other offers that have been made to him. Gundogan is expected to leave Barcelona for free, although Barcelona is expected to make his departure as easy as possible.
Despite their interest in Gundogan, Arsenal has not yet shown that they have held official negotiations with the player or his representatives. Pep Guardiola, meanwhile, has already surpassed his former assistant by approving the midfielder’s potential second stint at City.
It is unclear if Gundogan will select City again or if he will be enticed by the prospect of leading Arsenal to their first Premier League title in twenty years.
