Arsenal has rekindled its pursuit of Getafe striker Borja Mayoral, whose price has dropped by £23 million. According to sources close to the situation, Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta is looking to improve his squad’s attacking prowess during the late-window transfer period.
Bryan King, a well-connected former scout for Tottenham, Aston Villa, and Everton, stated on Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast that Arsenal is working toward a deal to sign the 26-year-old attacker. Mayoral, who began his career in the Real Madrid academy, has been in spectacular form for Getafe this season, scoring 14 goals and assisting in 22 appearances.
This renewed interest comes after Arsenal’s unsuccessful attempt to sign Mayoral in the summer, with a bid reportedly rejected. However, with a release clause now activated in the player’s contract, Arsenal finds themselves in a more favorable negotiating position. Mayoral’s release clause, priced at £17 million (€20 million), is a significant reduction from Getafe’s lofty £40 million asking price in the previous transfer window.
Arsenal’s urgency to strengthen their attacking options stems from a lack of clinical finishing in recent matches, having scored only five goals in their last seven outings. Jesús, the current striker for the North London side, has found the net just three times in the league this season.
As the transfer window deadline approaches, Arsenal’s delegation is poised to finalize multiple deals, with the potential acquisition of Mayoral being a focal point in their late-window activity.
