Three Premier league giants vie for the €80 million center-back
According to recent reports, Arsenal is stepping up its efforts to bring in Sporting Lisbon’s young star, Ousmane Diomande. The Gunners are not alone in their pursuit, as Chelsea and Newcastle United are also keeping a close eye on the talented center-back.
Arsenal’s interest in Diomande extends back to his time at Midtjylland, but Sporting opted to sign him last winter. Despite a €35 million bid from Arsenal last summer, Sporting was keen about keeping the brilliant defender.
As the January transfer window approaches, Sporting is expected to look for Diomande’s €80 million release clause, posing a difficult roadblock for any buyers.
Since joining Sporting, the 19-year-old has made a quick impression, showing outstanding passing precision and defensive prowess.
Diomande has proven himself effective both on and off the ball. He averages 1.7 tackles, five duels won, and 1.6 clearances per game on defense, showing his well-rounded skill set.
While Arsenal faces difficult talks and competition from Chelsea and Newcastle, the club is allegedly considering taking a proactive approach. Meetings with Diomande’s agents could be essential in promoting the player to transfer to the Emirates Stadium.
As the January transfer window approaches, the football world will be watching to see if Arsenal can sign the best young talent for a sum of roughly €50-80 million at the end of the season.
