So far, the Frenchman has refused to sign a contract extension with Leipzig.
His deal is set to end in another 16 months as Leipzig rejected a €60m Arsenal bid last summer. With the clock ticking down, Upamecano’s value will only continue to take a hit as Leipzig grows desperate.
It is unlikely that the German outfit will allow him to play out his contract instead of cashing in on him. The bad news is several other European giants like Bayern Munich and Barcelona are interested in him as well. There is no denying they have a higher financial capacity and also can offer Champions League football from the get-go.
Arsenal are still fighting their way to an European qualification spot this season after collecting just 6 wins in 25 Premier League games. Mikel Arteta’s job got harder with a string of injuries welcoming him back to the Emirates. The Gunners did get some defensive relief by signing Pablo Mari and Cedric Soares in the January window but neither of them are expected to make an immediate impact.
Arsenal might have to see how their season develops in order to attract Upamecano into their side next season.
