Following Thomas Partey’s recent injury setback, Arsenal is reportedly considering a move for Aston Villa’s Douglas Luiz in order to improve their midfield options. For the upcoming January transfer window, Mikel Arteta’s team had also initially targeted Brentford’s Ivan Toney.
However, with Partey out until 2024 suffering a thigh injury, the Gunners have turned their attention to the Brazilian midfielder. Additionally, football analyst Fabrizio Romano confirmed Arsenal’s interest in Aston Villa midfielder.
‘The top name from what I’m hearing on Arsenal’s list is Douglas Luiz,’ Romano said on his YouTube channel.
‘The player was on the list two years ago, Edu and other people at the club really appreciate him.
‘Douglas Luiz is considered the perfect midfielder by people at Arsenal. They would love to sign him and retire on Douglas Luiz.’
Arsenal made many attempts to get Luiz last year, but Villa rejected their highest price of £25 million. Despite the result, Luiz committed to Villa for the long term by signing a contract extension until 2026.
While Arsenal also remains interested in Real Sociedad player Martin Zubimendi, the midfielder is likely to stay with the Spanish club until the conclusion of the season. Arsenal faces a difficult task as they look to strengthen their squad following Partey’s sorrow injury.
