Arsenal’s hopes of winning the Premier League were dashed on Sunday when Manchester United defeated the leaders 3-2 thanks to a brilliant goal from Matheus Cunha. At the Emirates Stadium, Bryan Mbeumo tied the score before halftime after Lisandro Martinez’s own goal gave Arsenal the lead.

After halftime, Mikel Merino’s late equaliser appeared to have saved a point for Arsenal, but Patrick Dorgu’s spectacular shot gave United the lead. Three minutes from the end, Brazilian striker Cunha scored the game-winning goal with a striking shot.

Since losing against Aston Villa in December, it was Arsenal’s first loss in 13 games across all competitions. After losing to Bournemouth in May, the Gunners suffered their first home defeat in eighteen games in all competitions.

With victories against Wolves and Newcastle this weekend, respectively, Arsenal is currently only four points ahead of second-place Manchester City and third-place Aston Villa.

Man United stun Arsenal to blow title race back open

For the first time in eighteen games in all competitions since their May loss to Bournemouth, the Gunners suffered a home defeat.

After defeating Wolves and Newcastle this weekend, respectively, Arsenal is now only four points ahead of second-place Manchester City and third-place Aston Villa.

Arsenal’s three-game losing streak in the league has revitalised the championship fight, despite City manager Pep Guardiola calling them the “best team in the world” this week.

Arsenal still has control over their future, but goalless draws against Nottingham Forest and Liverpool had alarmed their nervous supporters, and this was another concerning outcome for manager Mikel Arteta.

Arsenal, who haven’t won the championship in 22 years, will be put to the test in the upcoming weeks after squandering sizable leads at the top in past title contests. Arteta hasn’t collected a trophy since the 2020 FA Cup.
