Arsenal to fork out at least £60m in pursuit of Everton midfielder Amadou Onana

As the summer transfer market opens, Arsenal may lose out to archrivals Tottenham Hotspur on sensational midfield players. Everton midfielder Amadou Onana was formerly considered a top transfer target for Arsenal, but reports suggest Tottenham Hotspur is more interested in the Toffees star.

The 22-year-old Belgian international had been the top choice to replace the latter position on the Gunners’ summer 2024 want list. They also have new midfielders, left backs, and strikers. But it appears Spurs have moved in on the Senegalese-born football player as the Emirates club starts to focus on Martin Zubimendi of Real Sociedad and Douglas Luiz of Aston Villa.

The Belgian midfielder who was supposed to replace the reportedly leaving Thomas Partey is still a target for the Gunners, according to journalist Ignazio Genuardi via SportWitness, but the team may face familiar competition for his services.

Amadou Onana would be a good replacement for Thomas Partey this summer

The 22-year-old had a good season with Everton. He made 30 appearances in the top flight and excelled with his defensive attributes. Onana won two-thirds of his duels with 2.4 tackles and 5.3 recoveries per game. He completed 85 percent of his passes for the Toffees who are generally a low-possession side. The Belgian also had a long-ball accuracy of 71 percent.

Onana would be an ideal replacement for the injury-prone Thomas Partey, who could be sold. His contract expires in June 2025 and no contract talks are planned.
