Arsenal’s Ethan Nwaneri opens door to Premier league loan as deadline nears

Arsenal academy graduate Ethan Nwaneri intends to remain at the Emirates Stadium this summer unless an attractive proposal from a Premier League rival materialises before Tuesday’s 11pm transfer deadline, according to Sky Sports.

The 19-year-old attacking midfielder impressed during pre-season, scoring a fine goal in the 3-2 defeat to Borussia Dortmund.

However, he has yet to make a competitive appearance for the Gunners this term, having been left out of the matchday squad for the Community Shield victory over Manchester City and the Premier League opener against Coventry City.

Nwaneri faces fierce competition for places at Arsenal. Martin Ødegaard and Eberechi Eze sit ahead of him in the pecking order for his preferred attacking midfield role, while Bukayo Saka, Noni Madueke and 16-year-old Max Dowman provide stiff competition on the right wing.

Manager Mikel Arteta has acknowledged that Nwaneri needs regular first-team football, stating: “I want him to be at the club… but Ethan needs to play football”.

The England Under-21 international is reluctant to pursue another move abroad following his loan spell at Marseille during the second half of last season.

Nwaneri made only four starts for Les Phocéens across all competitions, and the departure of manager Roberto De Zerbi in February further limited his opportunities.

Arsenal are prioritising loan offers for the teenager rather than sanctioning a permanent sale. AC Milan, RB Leipzig, Borussia Dortmund and Fulham have all expressed interest.

Given Nwaneri’s preference to remain in England, a season-long loan to Fulham where he could work under manager Álvaro Arbeloa could prove an attractive option.

With the clock ticking, Nwaneri’s immediate future hinges on whether a compelling Premier League proposal arrives before the window slams shut.
