Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta prepares for Saturday’s Premier League clash against Nottingham Forest amid growing speculation over the future of winger Gabriel Martinelli, whose position at the club appears increasingly uncertain.

With Eze’s Arrival, Martinelli’s Arsenal Role Comes Under Threat

The Brazilian attacker, once regarded as a cornerstone of Arteta’s project, is now facing scrutiny over his consistency and long-term role.

According to reports, Arsenal quietly considered selling the 24-year-old during the recent transfer window, placing a £60 million valuation on him. However, potential suitors valued him closer to £40 million, preventing a summer move.

Martinelli’s dip in form has raised questions about his future at the Emirates. After a breakout 2022–23 season with 15 Premier League goals, his contributions have declined, managing only 18 goals and 11 assists in his last 97 appearances.

This inconsistency has led to criticism from pundits like Alan Brazil, who recently expressed frustration over his decision-making and effectiveness in forward areas.

Competition for places has intensified following Arsenal’s signing of Eberechi Eze from Crystal Palace and the arrival of Noni Madueke.

Both players provide Arteta with alternatives on the left wing, and Martinelli’s bench role against Liverpool highlighted his reduced status in the squad.

AC Milan have emerged as potential suitors and see Martinelli as an ideal replacement should Rafael Leao depart. Arsenal may revisit transfer discussions in January, especially if the Brazilian fails to reclaim a starting role.

Financially, Martinelli’s sale could facilitate a future move for Real Madrid’s Rodrygo, a player Arsenal admire. The club is keen to avoid a prolonged negotiation standoff, leveraging Martinelli’s contract, which runs until 2027.

For now, Martinelli remains an Arsenal player, but the coming months will be critical in determining whether he can rediscover his best form or become a casualty of the club’s evolving ambitions.
