Arsenal crashed and burned once again versus Everton last night.
Another disappointing outing saw The Gunners kill any hopes of climbing up into the Premier League top six.
A thoroughly inefficient display from both sides saw it end 1-0 off the back of a Bernd Leno blunder. Richarlison’s weak shot from the byline was mishandled by the German goalkeeper and ended up giving The Toffees all three points.
“We were the better team but there are certain decisions that we can’t control,” Mikel Areta told Sky Sports.
“To disallow a penalty 15 seconds before – [we had] eight or nine touches [after Nicolas Pepe was offside] – I saw it 10 times and I don’t get it. It can be taken the way they want. Zero control. Somebody has to explain that.
“We were the better team. We lacked some clear-cut chances and the edge in the final third. They are very well organised but we conceded the goal in the wrong moment and when we had the penalty but it wasn’t given.”
Asked about Leno’s own goal, however, Arteta said: “It’s an own goal and we know we have to do better.”
This result was Arsenal’s sixth win in 17 Premier League home games.
