Arsenal’s Brazilian winger Marquinhos appears to be nearing the end of his tenure at the Emirates Stadium, with manager Mikel Arteta confirming ongoing discussions about his future.

Arsenal’s Marquinhos Could Depart as Loan Agreement Sparks Discussions

The 21-year-old, who joined Arsenal from São Paulo in 2022 for approximately £3 million, has struggled to secure a consistent place in the first team, making just six appearances and scoring once in the Europa League.

Marquinhos has been loaned out multiple times to gain experience, including stints at Norwich City, Nantes, Fluminense, and currently Cruzeiro.

His time at Cruzeiro has been marred by limited playing opportunities, partly due to a contractual clause that would obligate the Brazilian club to purchase him if he plays a certain number of games.

New Cruzeiro coach Leonardo Jardim has initiated talks with Arsenal to allow Marquinhos more game time without triggering this clause.

Despite these efforts, Marquinhos has not made a significant impact during his loan spells.

At Fluminense, he managed two goals and two assists in 29 appearances, while his time at Nantes and Norwich City yielded minimal contributions.

His current loan at Cruzeiro is set to run until December 2025, but discussions are ongoing about a potential permanent move back to Brazil.

With Arsenal’s attacking options well-stocked, including players like Bukayo Saka, Gabriel Martinelli, and Leandro Trossard, Marquinhos faces stiff competition for a spot in the squad.

Arteta’s confirmation of exit talks suggests that the club is open to facilitating a move that would benefit both Marquinhos and Arsenal.

As the summer transfer window approaches, Marquinhos’s future remains uncertain, but it seems increasingly likely that his journey with Arsenal is coming to an end.
