Arsene Wenger hits out at Arsenal over Super League plans.
The Gunners are one of the founding members of the controversial European Super League which involves 15 teams competing each year in a continental competition.
Ex-Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has slammed the plans which involves the founding clubs getting rewarded based on their financial and historical status and not their sporting merit.
Wenger told talkSPORT: “It’s a bad idea. Football has to stay united. The most important thing is that it’s based on sporting merit, to respect the history that has been built for European football.
“I believe personally that this idea will not go far. I believe that there is a more dangerous idea behind it. It’s a big threat to the Premier League.
“When I was in charge, there was a lot going on from other countries to diminish the product of the Premier League.
“A project like that would accommodate that.”
Wenger added: “I don’t know what is going on but what is most important is unity in the game and that football is played all over the world and inside one organisation.
“Football is the most popular important reasons. We are absolutely going to fight to keep football simple, understandable and based on merit.
“Everyone has to have the same chance and dream to be successful.”
