The availability of summer acquisition Piero Hincapie to play against Atletico Madrid on Tuesday has been confirmed by Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta. Since joining the Gunners on a season-long loan from Bayer Leverkusen in August, Hincapie, 23, has only played six minutes of football.
On September 16, the defender entered the game as a substitute and helped Arsenal defeat Athletic Bilbao 2-0 on the road in their Champions League debut. Since then, Hincapie has been sidelined and has been disqualified from Ecuador’s international team.
Now, when Diego Simeone’s Atletico arrives at the Emirates, the Leverkusen loanee might make his second appearance for Arsenal. Arteta affirms, “Yeah, he will be available,” during his press conference prior to the game.
After joining the Gunners, Hincapie’s workload increased, which is what caused his injury. The Gunners have the option to sign him permanently next summer for £45 million. Although the left-footer can play either left-back or centre-back, he excelled in Germany playing on the left in a back three under Xabi Alonso.
Arteta stated that he will be available on Tuesday, October 21, when Atletico visits the Emirates Stadium. During his pre-game press conference, the Arsenal manager gave the update. “Yeah, he (Hincapie) will be available, and I think that game (Fulham) is a bit too early for him,” the Spaniard remarked, adding that he was now prepared to play.
In addition, Arteta stated that he hoped to have Hincapie in his team for the 1-0 triumph over Fulham on the road, but the match at Craven Cottage came too soon. For Arteta, who was happy with his team’s performance in west London, it was the sole instance of displeasure.
When asked if he was pleased with his team’s performance following the victory over Marco Silva’s team, he said, “Well, very happy,” particularly following the international break. That was evident in the first five minutes. However, after the game was replayed, we deserved to win.
