Unlike the Spurs Arsenal match, it was a London derby that lived up to the billing. West Ham made an electric start to the game by scoring 3 goals inside 35 minutes.
Arsenal clawed their way back with a late first-half goal to go in 3-1 at halftime. They were brilliant in the second half driven by the ambitious Odegaard and it resulted in them drawing level to make it 3-3 for the night.
Arteta would not hoped for a better response from his team after falling behind by 3 goals to an in form West Ham team.
“I think he had an incredible performance,” the Spaniard told his post-match press conference.
“I think he was very intelligent the way he ready the game, the way he affected the game.
“He showed how much he wants to win. When everyone was a little bit trembling, he gave us that stability, that composure on the ball and created chance after chance.”
When asked if Odegaard was a leader in his team, Arteta added: “He is showing that I think from week one.
“The way he steps on that pitch and always wants the ball, the way he commands the pressing, he’s been really influential.
“I think we have all been surprised because he looks really shy and humble, but when he steps in that pitch he’s a real character and he loves to play football.”
