Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has clarified the reason behind Viktor Gyokeres’ early substitution during the Gunners’ 2-0 win over Burnley on Saturday.

“Why Arsenal Took Off Gyokeres at Half-Time – Arteta Explains”

The Swedish striker was withdrawn at half-time despite delivering an impressive first-half performance at Turf Moor.

Gyokeres opened the scoring with a close-range finish after reacting quickest to a set-piece, marking his fourth Premier League goal of the season.

He also stood out with his hold-up play and link-up movement, helping Arsenal dominate the opening 45 minutes. However, fans were left worried when he failed to return for the second half.

Speaking to BBC Match of the Day after the game, Arteta revealed that Gyokeres felt a muscular issue before the break, prompting the coaching staff to take no risks.

“In the first half, it was one of the best he’s played with us,” Arteta said.

“He felt something muscular, so we have to wait to learn the extent of that.”

The Arsenal boss now faces an anxious wait for medical updates, especially with a demanding fixture list ahead.

The Gunners are set to face Slavia Prague in the Champions League before a Premier League clash against Sunderland prior to the international break.

With Kai Havertz and Gabriel Jesus already sidelined, Gyokeres’ potential absence could leave Arsenal short of attacking options.

The 26-year-old had been showing signs of adapting to Arteta’s system after a slow start to life in North London.

Despite his early exit, Gyokeres’ first-half display offered plenty of positives.

He registered 17 touches, created two big chances, and delivered three key passes his most complete showing in an Arsenal shirt so far.

Supporters will be hoping the injury is minor, as his growing confidence could be vital for Arsenal’s push across multiple competitions.
