Mikel Arteta has tested positive for the novel coronavirus.
The pandemic which began in Wuhan, China last December has now spread across the globe affecting over 100,000 people with 4,000 dead. The worst hit countries so far are China, Italy, Iran and South Korea but it would seem Europe also are facing the heat of it now.
Sports of all kinds have already been banned in Italy and Spain with Germany and England in discussion.
The situation turned dire last night as the first PL manager turned victim to the COVID-19 issue with Mikel Arteta being tested positive.
The Arsenal boss has been quarantined along with his first team coaches and the rest of the squad. West Ham is also likely to be quarantined after playing Arsenal last weekend.
“This is really disappointing,” said Spaniard Arteta. “I took the test after feeling poorly. I will be at work as soon as I’m allowed.”
The Premier League, who had announced yesterday that matches were set to continue has set into motion an early emergency meeting for today to discuss the situation.
In addition to Arteta, Chelsea youngster Callum Hudson-Odoi became the first official player from the Premier League to fall prey to the COVID-19 and Chelsea, like Arsenal are also expected to be kept in quarantine.
