Mikel Arteta was wrong to let go of Bernd Leno last summer.
The German goalkeeper made his move to Fulham last summer following the arrival of Aaron Ramsdale.
He secured an £8 million transfer to Marco Silva’s Fulham who was a reliable player under Mikel Arteta.
But with Arsenal closing on a deal with David Raya who has 12 months left on his Brentford contract, it could be the end of Aaron Ramsdale who will now have to fight for his place in the first-team.
If Arsenal can get a deal done for Raya, it would be a big statement signing for Mikel Arteta this summer.
But Tony Cascarino believes Arteta made a wrong move by selling Leno last summer.
Cascarino said: “You think, has Arteta sat a long time over that summer period thinking ‘yes, Ramsdale has been a good goalkeeper for me’.
“But he was very harsh on Leno. I thought letting Leno go to Fulham was a big call. I would have taken Leno over Ramsdale, at that time, as the keeper I would have wanted as my number one.
“Maybe Arteta has thought long and hard about it. He made a lot of individual mistakes with his feet at the end of last season. He might have just convinced himself, sometimes you do, you change your mind.”
