Atletico Madrid have turned down Arsenal’s exchange offer of Matteo Guendouzi for Thomas Partey.
By now, it is no secret that the Gunners badly want Partey and it seems like they are turning over every stone to get him.
Mikel Arteta’s first managerial campaign took another setback as Arsenal finished eighth in the table, well away from European qualification. Arsenal can still earn a Europa League spot but they will have to beat Chelsea in the FA Cup final to get it. Right now, they cannot promise any player European football.
Arsenal reportedly put forth their best offer of Guendouzi plus €25 million package in exchange for the Ghana international. Guendouzi arrived from FC Lorient two years back for £8 million. His value shot up after a few impressive performances but unfortunately, he has had a falling out with Arteta.
The Frenchman has been made to train alone after his confrontation with Neal Maupay in June. He has since been left out of every matchday squad along with Mesut Ozil. His future at the Emirates is clearly over and Arsenal want to use him as an exchange piece for the players they like.
Ideally, Guendouzi would be a great fit into Diego Simeone’s system at Atletico, given the talent he posses. But Arsenal will also find it difficult to find any suitors for him. Right now, they will have to convince Partey and Atletico with only their bank account.
