Tahir Taghizadeh, Azerbaijan’s ambassador to the UK has ensured Henrikh Mkhitaryan’s safety in his country for the Europa League final in Baku and has also insisted the player can contact if he needs any kind of assurance.
The Arsenal attacker happens to be an Armenian citizen whose country doesn’t share any diplomatic relations with Azerbaijan over some ongoing tensions. He didn’t travel with the Gunners squad when the North Londoners played Qarabag in the Europa League group stage.
All the concerned authorities have already made all the necessary requirements to get the ball rolling for the big event and Mkhitaryan is likely to face Chelsea on 29th May in the Europa League final.
On being asked if he will have a conversation with the Arsenal star regarding his security issues Taghizadeh answered, “Absolutely.
“I would be delighted for him to have a conversation with me.
“This is a Class A event, if our purpose is to play political games around it it is something different, you are being paid as a footballer not a politician, lets leave other issues aside.
“His problem is that he has visited a military occupied portion of Azerbaijan which in doing so without permission from Azerbaijan government.
“This entails consequences including blacklisted by the government. But he will be able to have security and safety guarantees
