Arsenal’s transfer target, James Rodriguez has been told by Bayern Munich to prove his worth if he plans on staying at the Allianz Arena beyond this season.
Unai Emery has earmarked the Colombian for a possible move this month who is struggling to perform for the Bundesliga giants. Rodriguez is in the second year of his loan agreement away from Real Madrid and has made just 11 appearances this season across all competitions.
It was earlier reported that the Gunners could sign the 27-year-old during the winter transfer window by simply paying out the £3m left on his loan deal.
However, Munich’s head coach, Niko Kovac has revealed that Rodriguez plans on staying with the German outfit for the remainder of the season. “He wants to stay with FC Bayern, as he once said during a fan club visit, he is highly motivated and focused,” Kovac said. “He can always help us with his quality.”
The Bavarians’ head coach also stated that Rodriguez’s future at Bayern depends on how he performs this season. He further added, “James is playing for his future. I expect him to keep pushing. I see that he is motivated and focused, he wants to play more than in the past.”
Bayern have returned from their winter break and are set to face off against TSG Hoffenheim in the Bundesliga. Arsenal, on the other hand, are in an uncomfortable position with Mesut Ozil who reportedly is not cutting it under Unai Emery.
Should the German make an exit any time soon, the Gunners might be further motivated to go strongly pursue a deal for James Rodriguez.
