The goalkeeper joined Arsenal this summer
Arsenal completed the signing of Bernd Leno for a reported fee of around £19 million, signing a 5 year contract back in June. He was signed as a long term of successor of Petr Cech.
He was a mainstay for the German club in the past couple of seasons, making more than 300 appearances. He developed himself as one of the best goalkeepers in the world during his time at Bundesliga.
The 26 year old was named in Germany’s provisional squad for the 2018 FIFA World Cup, but was not selected for the final 23-man squad.
It was expected that the Germany International will be the Gunners’ first choice goalkeeper this season but new manager Unai Emery has preferred Cech ahead of him so far this season.
The veteran goalkeeper has responded to the competition by making more saves than any other Premier League goalkeeper so far this season with 18. Though the club lost first 2 matches against Manchester City and Chelsea but they got to wiining ways against West Ham United last weekend.
Earlier Emery revealed why he had chosen to start with former Chelsea goalkeeper.
“We want the competition with the goalkeeper and also every player in the squad,” said the Spaniard.
“The position is the same. The same chances for all the goalkeepers.
“Petr Cech had a very good pre-season. He has experience of continuing to defend our goal.
“Leno is [just] starting with us, he is working very well and also played very good in pre-season. He can wait his moment.”
However, Leno is unconcerned and insisted that he will get his chance to prove himself this season.
“I am convinced that my change was the right decision,” Leno said as quoted by Daily Star. “I’m not crazy.
“It may take a few weeks or months, but my time here will come.”
