Bernd Leno played down talks of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and his uncertain future having any effects of the Arsenal squad.
Reports constantly linked the Gabon international with a January switch to Barcelona. The move ended up not happening but there is no telling what the future might hold.
Arsenal are currently 10th in the Premier League and look far from qualifying back into the Champions League this season. Aubameyang, who is due to turn 31 in June, also has a contract for just one more season in North London. If he does not extend his contract, the Gunners might be convinced into cashing in on him.
Leno, however, believes the forward’s focus is with his current team. He said, “Not too many players talked about this. Of course there are rumours but you never had the feeling that any player was thinking about another club or wanted to leave or they didn’t have the mentality in training.
“Everybody can see we have a new manager and a new mentality. We want to build something here. Maybe it takes a little bit of time but of course we also want to have good results straight away now. You can see on the pitch all these rumours don’t affect these players – they are fighting, they are leading the team and this is the only way.”
