Arsenal’s strong interest in Bruno Guimares has been exaggerated by the media, states reputable journalist, David Ornstein.
If there’s one person whose reputation exceeds the others it is the BBC and The Athletic reporter, Ornstein.
Arsenal reportedly shortlisted the defensive midfielder for this January but Ornstein insists all reports are not trustworthy. Athletico Paranaense’s president did reveal that the Gunners were planning a summer move with a bid of €25m-€30m in mind.
The thing is Athletico already have a deal in place with Benfica who had offered €20m for the player. The Brazilian outfit might have been using the media to simply drive up Benfica’s bid or include future stakes in the player’s sale.
David Ornstein told The Athletic’s Transfer Daily podcast, “[The situation of] Bruno Guimaraes I don’t know very much about. I’ve been told by a couple of people that this is just media speculation at the moment.
“Now, because I don’t have specific information on it, I’m not shooting down those reports. I’m merely saying that is what I’ve been told be a couple of people I trust. Just press reports at this moment in time.”
It is likely agents or other involved parties might be using Arsenal’s name to wrap up the transfer right now.
